Who moved my job?

I spent more than thirty years in the semiconductor business. I started out in electronic test equipment design, moved into procurement, went from there to sales, then into business systems analysis, got involved in change management, back to application engineering, marketing, business operations, and finally - OUT! All of this time, my career advanced in the normal manner from a junior project engineer into the ranks of executive management. Mine was the typical climb up the corporate ladder with lots of excitement, fun, and experience along the way, and I have no regrets at all. But now that I’m able to take that gathered wisdom and share it with others, I have to ask, “Was the ladder even against the right building?”

It becomes apparent that we can no longer depend on the corporate world for our security. The business model our parents lived with is no longer a valid world view. So what do we do? Where's the "security" I need for my family?
